“Come & See”
This is the invitation that the Lord Jesus extended to Andrew and the other disciple after John the Baptist proclaimed Him as the Lamb of God. Their hearts were stirred with longing. "Rabbi," Andrew asked, "where are you staying?" They desired more than mere knowledge about Him; they yearned to truly know Him.
In response, Jesus invited them to "Come and see," not only to discover where He was physically staying but, more profoundly, to dwell within His heart. His heart is brimming with divine life, so full with the mission of the Father: “I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Through their time with Jesus, Andrew and the other disciple were filled to the overflowing—so much so that they could not contain themselves. They soon began inviting others to come and encounter Jesus.
"The Better Part”
In Luke’s Gospel, we find the story of Mary and Martha. Mary, so delighted by Jesus’ Presence in her home, sat at His feet and listened to all He had to say. For her part, Martha felt like she needed to do all she could to serve Jesus. While Mary sat and received, Martha was busy about the house. She became overwhelmed and demanded that Jesus tell Mary to help her. But Jesus instead gave Martha a gentle correction and shared that Mary had chosen the better part.
The Invitation
Before we do anything for Jesus, it is of paramount importance to simply BE with Him. In order to be stewards, we must first respond to His invitation to “come and see”. Come and sit at His feet. Learn who He is and experience the depth of love He has for us. Through that we come to know who we are to Him.
Let Him pour out the Presence of the Holy Spirit into your life. As you simply sit with Him, you will begin to know how He wants you to share His love with your family, your coworkers, your parish, and your community. He will reveal how He wants you to be a steward of His love and the gifts that flow from that love.
