Lord, Teach Me To Pray (LTMTP) is a three-part Ignatian prayer series offered for men and women who desire spiritual growth rooted in Ignatian spirituality as they respond to the call to holiness and to a deeper commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord. The three parts are taken in succession. Each part is a prerequisite for the next part.
Registation for Part I: Praying Christian Virtue Now Open.
Introduces participants to Ignatian prayer and spirituality.
Runs Feb. 3 -May, 2021
Introduces participants to Ignatian prayer and spirituality in a way that St. Ignatius of Loyola himself introduced people to prayer, i.e. by structuring their initial prayer experience around the Christian Virtues and Scripture. Sampling of Part 1 topics: "Enter in Prayer”, Virtues, Imagination, Reflection, Meditation, Contemplation, Consciousness Examen
Part 1 Prerequisite: Enthusiasm to enter into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ; and “enter into” the daily readings of Sacred Scripture.
Coming Spring 2021: Registration will January 4-31, 2021.
Consists of the entirety of the well known “Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius”. The title of this part of the series refers to the 19th note that St. Ignatius wrote in his notebook. In this note he instructs that the same Spiritual Exercises which he developed to be conducted in an enclosed retreat setting (e.g., the 30-day Ignatian Retreat), should be adapted to accommodate those in the world who cannot leave their family and livelihood for an extended period of time.
Part 2 Prerequisite: Completion of Part 1.
Part III: Discernment and Gifts of the Spirit (14 weeks)
Provides participants with a general catechesis of the Holy Spirit with emphasis on the sanctifying gifts of the Holy Spirit as they pray with the related Scriptures. St. Ignatius’ Rules of Discernment are also introduced.
Part 1 Prerequisite: Completion of Part 2
Coming Fall 2021: Registration will open in the Fall
What is Ignatian Prayer?
Ignatian Prayer has been in existence for almost 500 years , and it is said by some that the Spiritual Exercises were given to St. Ignatius by the Blessed Virgin Mother herself. As such, the Exercises have an integrity that has been safeguarded throughout the centuries by Jesuits and non-Jesuits alike. The Exercises have shaped the spirituality of countless children of God including numerous saints, drawing them into, and guiding them into a very deep spirit-filled relationship with the Lord Jesus.
