The requirements for having your child baptized at St. Tim's are:
1. Parents must be registered members of St. Tim's for at least three months, attend mass regularly and tithe.
2. Complete the Baptismal Intake form.
3. Complete an interview process, and then attend a preparation class for the Sacrament of Baptism.
4. Choose appropriate Godparent(s)
5. Be committed to raising your child in the Catholic Faith.
Our Baptisms take place on Saturday evenings. Upon completion of the requirements, a time for your child's Baptism will be scheduled.
After turning in the completed Baptismal Intake form a member of our staff will contact you to setup an interview. We encourage you to complete this preparation process during your pregnancy. Since children are not permitted at the Baptism class, we ask you to arrange for childcare on your own.
Choosing Godparents
The role of the Godparent or sponsor in the sacrament of Baptism is very important. While being a godparent is an honor, it is important to choose a godparent who is active in the Catholic faith, will be connected to the child during the course of their life, and will take the role of godparent or sponsor seriously.
Catholic Church laws (Canon law) note the following requirements:
1. Only one godparent/sponsor is required.
2. Traditionally, a child has two godparents/sponsors one of each sex.
3. A godparent/sponsor must be 16 years of age, have received the sacrament of Confirmation, and live a life of faith befitting a godparent within the Catholic Church. (If you are married you must be validly married in the Catholic Church. If you are single you must be living a chaste life.)
4. May not be the father or mother of the person to be baptized.
5. Additionally, St. Timothy requires three months of active registration in a parish, meaning attendance at Mass and participation in ministry, typically tracked through tithing records.
If the child has only one Catholic godparent/sponsor, a person who is a baptized non-Catholic Christian may take the role as a Christina witness. This person must be of the opposite sex as the Catholic godparent.
Baptisms
"I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters that our ancestors were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ." - Corinthians 10:1-6
