"I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ" - Corinthians 10:1-6 The requirements for having your child baptized at St. Timothy's are as follows: 1. Parents must be registered members of St. Timothy's for at least three months. They must attend Mass regularly and tithe. 2. A Baptismal Intake form must be completed. 3. They must attend a preparation class and complete an interview with the Deacon. 4. Appropriate Godparent(s) must be chosen. 5. Must be committed to raising your child in the Catholic faith. After turning in the completed Baptismal Intake form, a member of our staff will contact you to set up a class date. We encourage you to complete this preparation process during your pregnancy. Since children are not permitted at the Baptism class, we ask that you arrange for childcare if needed. Upon completion of all the requirements, a time for your child's Baptism will be scheduled. Choosing Godparent(s) The role of the Godparent(s) or Sponsor in the sacrament of Baptism is very important. While being a Godparent is an honor, it is important to choose someone who is active in the Catholic faith, one who will be connected to the child during the course of their lifetime, and one who will take the role of being a Godparent seriously. Catholic Church law (Canon Law) notes the following: 1. Only one Godparent is required, although traditionally, a child has two Godparents or Sponsors, one of each sex. 2. A Godparent or Sponsor must be at least 16 years of age, have received the sacrament of Confirmation, and live a life of faith befitting a Godparent within the Catholic Church. If married, it must be a valid Catholic marriage. If single, must be living a chaste life. 3. The Godparent may not be the actual parent of the person to be baptized. 4. St. Timothy's also requires the Godparent(s) be active registered parishioners for at least three months, meaning attendance at Mass and participation in ministry, typically tracked through tithing records. Additionally, a permission letter from the Godparent's parish must be sent to St. Timothy's. If the child has only one Catholic Godparent or Sponsor, a person who is a baptized non-Catholic Christian may participate as a Christian witness. This person must be of the opposite sex as the Catholic Godparent. The Baptism classes are held on Saturday mornings, beginning at 9:15a, usually in the Spirituality Center.
