Children’s Religious Formation - Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Registration for the 2017-2018 catechetical year begins June 1 and ends August 31.

We are pleased to offer Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for your child's faith formation. The program has three levels:

Level 1 is designed for children 3 years old - Kindergarten.
Level 2 is designed for children in 1st - 3rd grades.
Level 3 is designed for children in 4th and 5th grades.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd seeks to initiate children into the covenant relationship with God, helping them to receive and respond to the loving call of Jesus the Good Shepherd who calls them by name, has loved them first and desires a deep relationship with them.
"We love because he first loved us."(1 Jn. 4:19)

The rooms, also known as atriums, the materials and the catechists provide an environment that meet the physical, emotional and the spiritual needs of child development. Through the Scriptures and the Liturgy CGS was developed in Rome by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbie following the Montessori principles of human development and the dignity of each soul. Using Montessori's spiral method, the doctrine of our Church, Sacred Scripture, and the Liturgy, they developed this method by studying the child and seeing what aspects of a given presentation sparked a joyful and yet peacefully satisfied response. It took them over 25 years to develop the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, we are honored to share it's blessings with you and your child!

PREPARATION FOR RECONCILIATION

To prepare for First Confession, children must have completed a year of religious education prior to the year of preparation.

The usual age for this Sacrament is seven years old and at the age of reason, typically in second grade. The age of reason is the ability to abstract. Children develop at their own unique pace so in respect to this we will help you to discern your child's readiness for the Sacrament.

PREPARATION FOR CONFIRMATION/FIRST EUCHARIST

Confirmation and First Communion preparation began with Baptism and when you first brought your child to Mass. The example of your love of the Sacraments and their importance in your life, as well as their catechetical formation has continued to prepare them for these Sacraments.

We will have a retreat to prepare for the Sacraments. The retreat is on Friday evening and during the day on Saturday. This retreat is designed for you and your child to have quality time together and to look deeply at the gift the child will receive. Therefore, one parent is required to attend the retreat with the child.  We will offer two weekends for the retreat. You are required to attend one.
